Steampunk Keygun by HeatherBomb Steampunk Keygun by HeatherBomb
It is a key, and a gun, and not very practical at all !
I've been drawing a lot of steampunk stuff, and was trying to design a weapon to go along with a character I will begin to model here in a few.

Took me a couple months to do due to lack of time.. scrambling for a new job seems to take most of it.

The textures are on my website, [link] if you'd like to view them, i'm not uploading it here.

Wow, this is really fascinating. If Kingdom Hearts were steampunk, I'm sure Sora would have this.

Actually, there were actual keyguns bck in the day. They were given to prison guards. They were perfectly functional as both a key and a gun

Very nice I must say ^^ I see alot of overcomplicated things in the steampunk genre and Im glad I'm not the only one not doing that, at least not all the time lol

Hm. Practical or not, there actually existed such a thing at one time. Just a small single shot pistol with a solid grooved ridge along the bottom of the barrel for opening certain doors, all though, not as elaborate nor as intricate as your design.

They're actually pretty unreliable as guns, though.

have you ever thought of trying to fabricate this?

well (talking out my ass here because I've never done anything like it) you could always do a clay sculpt and make a mold and then cast it in resin.

I'm planning on learning how to do exactly that kind of thing.

sounds like a good idea. id like to get into that sort of thing when i get my own house so that i can have a workshop and dirty things up real proper. apartments aren't good for my messy creative processes.

no they aren't.

I'm trying to convince my parents to let me rent their garage and turn it into a workshop. I'd still have to ride the bus to get there, but it would definitely work.

That's very cool, I love the design. I can see some practicality in it, using it as a 2 handed gun, and the bottom part of the key could easily be like, brass knuckle type things for holding it in place. :D In my eyes, at least.

Hey you got it done. Nice work. If you did a higher res texture it might be cool to have an etched design down the whole barrel kind of like this [link] . I think it would still fit with the steampunk theme but i'm not sure.

yeah i thought about throwing in some carved detail on the wood, but thought it might over complicate the image.
next time i might, because that is a silly thought.
